Coach James Sutton

You already know how to stop.

You've done it before. Maybe a lot of times. A few days, a few weeks, a few months, and then you're back at day one, more ashamed than the last time.

That doesn't mean you're hopeless. It means you've been trying to stay stopped on power you don't have.

Step 1 says it plainly: we were powerless, and our lives had become unmanageable. Alcohol, drugs, food, sex, it's the same problem. Willpower alone won't hold. You need more power than you've got right now.

Real recovery runs on two kinds of power.

Power Up does two things at once: we rebuild how you think (your Inner Power) and we build the outside supports that keep you going (your Power Accessories).

⚡ Power Accessories: the power outside you

Like a superhero's utility belt. Meetings, the book, prayer and devotion, a sponsor or a coach, exercise, sleep, the right people and a new routine. We help you build your belt, with a backup for every piece.

🔋 Inner Power: the power inside you

The change no one can take from you. A new way of thinking. Catching a thought before it turns into a drink or a drug. Seeing yourself and the world differently. Some call it a psychic change, some call it a paradigm shift. It's what makes you a different person, not just a person who didn't use today.

Why you need both: if all your power comes from outside you, you're one lost accessory away from a relapse. A sponsor moves. A meeting closes. A job ends. Someone walks out of prison into a world with none of their old support. When you build both kinds of power, losing one piece doesn't knock you down.

PU90: Power Up in 90 Days

What you get:

Built for people who are tired of starting over. Open to everyone.

We talk a lot about a few groups of people, because they're often the ones nobody makes room for. But nobody is turned away. If you want to change, you belong here.

Coming home from prison. Parole, housing, a job search and a world that kept moving without you, all at once. That's one of the most dangerous stretches for relapse. You don't have to do it alone. James has walked this road himself.

Chronic relapsers. You've been to the meetings. You might have years in the rooms. Something keeps pulling you back out. You're not broken. Most likely nobody ever sat down and walked you through the work. That's where we start.

Any alcoholic or addict. Alcohol, drugs, food, sex or something else. Newly sober or many years in. If you're ready to put something into your own recovery, you belong here.

Anyone who wants a better life. You don't have to be an addict. If you're stuck in old thinking and want to change how you see yourself and how you live, the same tools work for you.

Families who want to help. You can pay for someone you love. Sober living homes, churches, employers and reentry programs can sponsor someone too.

We work alongside your program, not instead of it. Power Up supports and enhances whatever recovery path you're already on: a 12-step fellowship, SMART Recovery, Celebrate Recovery or other faith-based recovery, church, treatment, or anything else. Keep going to what's working. We help you get more out of it. Still figuring it out? That's fine too.

Meet Coach James Sutton

Coach James Sutton

James spent more than 20 years going to meetings and relapsing over and over. He finally got sober during 8.5 years in a Texas prison, where he worked the steps for real and completed more than 20 programs. He was trained as a life coach and then became the one training new life coaches for other prisons. For his last 4.5 years inside, he led two meetings every morning and taught a cognitive-behavioral thinking program five days a week. Now he's home, and he coaches people who are where he used to be.

Questions people ask

Is this therapy or counseling?

No. This is coaching, not therapy. James isn't a licensed counselor, therapist or medical provider, and coaching isn't medical or mental-health treatment. Coaching is about action: doing the work, building your plan and staying accountable. If you need detox, medical care or mental-health treatment, we'll encourage you to get it, and coaching can run right alongside it.

Do I have to be in a 12-step program?

No. We work with people in 12-step fellowships, SMART Recovery, Celebrate Recovery, church-based recovery, treatment, or no program at all yet. A lot of our step work goes page by page through the book Alcoholics Anonymous, because that's where James's experience is, and we adapt it to your path. Bring your own copy.

Are you connected to any recovery fellowship?

No. Power Up Recovery Coach is an independent, private coaching business. We're not affiliated with or endorsed by any fellowship. Meetings are free, and we'll always encourage you to go.

Do I have to be an addict or alcoholic?

No. Power Up is open to anyone. The same work, rebuilding how you think and building the supports around you, helps anyone who feels stuck and wants a better life.

Will Power Up replace my program?

No. Power Up supports and enhances whatever recovery path you're already on: 12-step, SMART Recovery, faith-based recovery, treatment, or anything else. We coach alongside your program, not instead of it. Keep your meetings, your sponsor, your church or your counselor. We help you get more out of them.

Why do you charge? Isn't help free in the rooms?

Meetings are free, and they should be. Coaching is different: it's professional time focused on you. We believe people value what they invest in, so everyone pays something.

How much does it cost?

PU90 Live is $797 (founding price for the first groups: $697 through December 31, 2026). PU90 Self-Guided is $197. The Stay Powered membership is $49 a month, the small group is $200 a month, and 1:1 coaching is $175 a session or $650 a month for 4 sessions. The Power Up Call is free.

Can I pay over time?

Yes. PU90 Live can be split into 3 monthly payments ($266 a month, or $233 a month at the founding price). Payment plans cost nothing extra.

Is it online or in person?

Online. All coaching and groups happen on Zoom, and 1:1 sessions can be by phone. James is based in Dallas–Fort Worth, but you can be anywhere.

When does PU90 start?

The first PU90 Live groups start Monday, January 11, 2027 (Mondays 7:00 PM Central) and Saturday, January 16, 2027 (Saturdays 10:00 AM Central). You pick your time when you sign up. Times may be combined if a group is small. Everyone in a group starts together and gets a new module each week.

I just got out of prison. Can you help?

Yes. You're exactly who we want to serve, and James knows what coming home is like because he's done it. We can also point you to local help for housing, work and meetings. (Those are referrals; we aren't a case manager or legal advisor.)

I've relapsed more times than I can count. Is it too late?

No. Most people who keep relapsing were never really walked through the work. We start at the beginning and build both kinds of power, inside and out.

What's your refund policy?

Full refund if you ask within 3 days of purchase, on anything we sell. After that, purchases aren't refundable, but monthly items can be cancelled anytime before the next billing date. Details are in our Refund Policy.

Can I pay for my son, daughter, husband or wife?

Yes. They still have to want it, because coaching only works if they show up. Book a free Power Up Call and we'll set it up.

What happens on the free Power Up Call?

10 minutes with James by phone. You tell him a little about where you are, he tells you honestly whether Power Up is a fit, and if it is, which option makes sense: PU90, a group or 1:1. No pressure, and no cost.

Are the group calls recorded?

No, never. PU90 group calls and the Tuesday small group are never recorded, so everyone can share private things safely. What's shared in group stays in group. Every member agrees not to record, screenshot or repeat what others share.
